Many birdwatchers' favourite bird, the firecrest really is "a little jewel".

It's not an easy bird to see as it is so small and never keeps still, but you stand a reasonable chance finding one in Autumn if you're patient.

The only one I saw in 2007 was in section 1 just north of Newstead Road in mid October.

In 2008 another turned up in section 5 at the southern end of Old Castle Road on March 29th.
