Great Northern Diver
Gavia immer

This is the most common of the 3 species of diver seen from the Rodwell Trail

Look for it in the winter months from the Downclose Embankment or anywhere further south towards Ferrybridge.

Often they'll be well out in the harbour and you'll need a telescope to be sure, but they can sometimes be seen quite close in, easily visible with binoculars.

If you have a telescope you might be able to find the more slender Black-throated Diver or the much smaller and paler Red-throated Diver as well.
