Section 3
Wyke Road to Buxton Road

With a huge number of mature trees this is easily the most shady part of the trail, and consequently has a fairly low diversity of plant species.

Not surprisingly this is the best section for woodland birds and the only section to have produced a Treecreeper, although I rarely see woodpeckers here. Squirrels are most at home in this section and can just about cross the trail without having to leave the trees.

The steep sides produce the closest the trail has to a stream, it even has Watercress and Grey Wagtails!

Fungi like the damp shady conditions and there are always a few species to find, especially in autumn.

Far too shady for butterflies apart from Speckled Woods, although there have been reports of Fritillaries here.
