Section 6
Downclose Cutting

This is the top site for botanists with well over 100 species of flowering plants including one Red Data Book rarity, the lovely Little Robin.

The high path along the cliffs gives an excellent view of birds in the harbour as well as the odd wader on the muddy shoreline and migrants in the reeds and gorse bushes. Kinfishers and Little Egrets can sometimes be seen at the base of these cliffs, which are themselves an important invertebrate habitat.

The warm microclimate of the cutting gives ideal conditions for lizards, although I can't say that I've actually seen any recently.
