November 28th Most of the action today was just off the trail at Ferrybridge where there were 3 Goosander and a Kingfisher. The trail did have a few new birds though including the first Black-necked Grebes of the winter and a Stonechat, both seen from the end of Dover Road. The total for this month now stands at 57 which, apart from last January's cold snap, is the highest since Nov 2008. November 21st A series of good sightings this morning starting with the first Slavonian and Little Grebes of the winter off Smallmouth. Nearby was a couple of female Eider, with Raven and Buzzard seen soon after, both cruising low over Downclose. Downclose Cutting produced the best bird of the day, in the shape of a Dartford Warbler. As well as all this the Great Northern and Black-throated Divers were again offshore near the Sailing Centre and a Green Woodpecker was heard calling near Old Castle Road. On the way home Rodwell Cutting produced calling Coal Tit and Treecreeper! November 18th A Golden Plover was heard calling over Newstead Road late this evening. November 15th The first divers of the winter were in the harbour this morning, one each of Great Northern and Black-throated. Also a Treecreeper was heard calling at Rodwell. November 2nd A late Sandwich Tern was off Sandsfoot Castle this morning. I heard today that 2 of the colour ringed Mediterranean Gulls seen last week were from Pas de Calais, France November 1st The month got off to a quiet start with a small influx of Chiffchaffs around Newstead Road. The Great-spotted Woodpecker was very active being seen and heard several times from Old Castle Road right down to the end of Downclose Cutting, where there were also a Reed Bunting, the fist Stonechat of the autumn and a fly-over Brambling. |
