A walk along the cliffs near Southwell produced this very approachable rock pipit.
This individual is a fairly typical dark bird, but sometimes you come across much brighter rock pipits, like this one filmed at Portland Bill in April 2011.
Some of these are likely to be Scandinavian birds which have a distint summer plumage, but it is also likely that a proportion of the English Channel population
have a summer plumage as well.
The light also makes a big difference to their colour.
This one was filmed at Ferrybridge exactly three years ago.
Notice how pale its legs look in the bright sunshine.
