A visit to West Dorset this afternoon gave me an unexpected chance to film a new species for me - great-crested newt.



The ones in that clip were males, here is a female.



In the same pond were also a large number of the much smaller palmate newts - the ones that I normally see around Weymouth and Portland. This is a pair iin full courtship display.



Unbelievably this pond also had quite a few smooth newts as well.
