A great white egret has been present here for several weeks now, the first ever to stay for such a long period.
It has become progressively more tame as the weeks have passed.
The kinked neck held at 45 degrees and the bright yellow bill are diagnostic feature of this unmistakeable bird.
However in May 2008 a bird with a black bill was at Radipole, indicating that it must have very recently left its breeding colony, somewhere in northern Europe.
This year has seen a major arrival of another egret species from Europe, the cattle egret.
Much smaller than the great white, they are seen with little egrets in this video, filmed at Nottington this winter.
